Police House and Station

The police house and station were very well sited being opposite the hotel. It was manned until the 1990s and then was vacant for a number of years until the Police Department sold in 2002. The Police house has been restored under a heritage grant and is used as a weekender. The Police Station has been renovated to also serve as accommodation.

At the rear of the Police Station is the original police cell. This cell was originally behind the courthouse but was moved when the police station was established. Brian Darcy who lived opposite was the last remaining town resident to have spent time in the police cell. He used to be let out each day so that he could return home to bathe. This was in 1975 when Tom Jefferson was the policeman stationed at Catherine Hill Bay. Brian (foopsy) recorded that while serving his time the door to the lockup was opened day and night and that he did odd jobs around the yard. Until he died in December 2007 he kept a copy of the food that he was served during his 16 day stay.

In October 2013 the Police cell was destroyed by bushfire. Under NRMA insurance it was rebuilt with the same dimensions. There has been a successful adaptive reuse with one wall able to be lowered to a deck providing wonderful views. Internally toilet/bathroom facilities have been added.
