No 31 Flowers Drive

This weatherboard and galvanised iron cottage was built between 1908-1915. The Wallarah Coal-mining Company built the cottage to house its mineworkers.

Jean and Jackie Parker lived in this house when they were newly married.

Jackie Parker was one of Kate Parker’s children. Kate was made a widow when her husband was killed in the Dudley Mine disaster.

Bill Spring was a tenant for many years. He and his wife often boarded the male teacher of the school opposite, Stan Ray being one of them. Stan was a very well- liked teacher at the Bay. He served with Bill Maclaren, headmaster. He liked to play tricks with Mr Spring by putting rat tails on his door.

Ron Flarty was the third resident

The Wilson family were the fourth residents in this house. The parents, Richard (Dick) and Ruby had six children (one died)

Margaret married Alan Faraway.

Robyn married Ronnie Faraway.

Neil married Colleen Gunning (granddaughter of the D’Arcy family of Mine Camp)

In 1964 the Coal Company ‘Coal & Allied’ subdivided some of its land. The Company determined that MR R K Wilson would purchase this house and land for 400 pounds. Richard  died in 2006 and Ruby a few years later.Both are buried in the cemetery

The house was sold in 2013 and has since been renovated.
