No 35 Flowers Drive

This weatherboard and galvanised iron cottage was built between 1908-1915. The Wallarah Coal-mining Company built this cottage to house its mineworkers.

The Jackman family were the next tenants. Mr Jackman was a clerk at the Wallarah Office. The Jackman family moved to the Bay proper and lived in the house that later became Nurse Turode’s Maternity Hospital.

The Rutherford family moved from the Bay to this house in Middle Camp.

In 1964 the Coal Company ‘Coal & Allied’ subdivided some of its land. The Company determined that Mrs E Rutherford would purchase this house and land for 400 pounds.

There were two boys Robert and Tommy and two girls Mary and Mildred.

“Bob (Robert) was often involved in after school fights which lasted until both boys virtually collapsed. These fights were often held at the back of the Hall”

Bob and Nancy sold and moved to Gwandalan in the late1980s.

Jan and Gus Almgren owned the house in 1994. It has been onsold twice, the latest sale was in 2016.
