No 6 Clark St

This weatherboard house was built around 1889 by the Wallarah Coal-mining Company to house its mineworkers.

Mr and Mrs Gillespie were the first remembered tenants. They had two boys and one girl. Their daughter became Mrs Middleton who later lived in No15 Clarke Street.

Mr Campbell was the next resident and then Taff Reece. Taff Reece had a good garden of which he was very proud. Iona Brace, formerly of No 21 Clarke Street went to live with Taff Reece after her husband had died.

Tom Mc Dougall with his second wife were the next tenants. Tom McDougall had earlier lived in Middle Camp with his first wife and their four children. They then moved to No 10 Lindsley Street.

When the Coal Company ‘Coal & Allied’ subdivided some of their land in 1964 they determined that Mrs J Brace who was the then tenant would purchase this house and land for 350 pounds. The width of the land was 75 feet and 7 inches and the length was 165 feet.

House was demolished and the land was bought by the Summervilles this was onsold in 2003.

A new house was built by Noel Seabrook who lived there for a number of years and then put in long term tenants.

The house was sold in 2016 to Fae and Neil Pratten who are permanent residents, the lure of fishing strikes again
