No 8 Clark St

A weatherboard house was built around 1889 by the Wallarah Coal-mining Company to house its mineworkers.

Lived in by Bob and Mill Forsyth and then tenanted by the Hilliers. There were three children Elsie, Mavis and brother ‘Buno’

Mrs Outram then lived here with her son Charlie. Charlie eventually married a girl from next door in No 10 Clarke Street, Ettie Gill. In those days it was considered a rather late marriage as they were in their later twenties. Ettie and Charlie had a son Max.

In 1964 the Coal Company ‘Coal & Allied’ subdivided some of its land and decided that Mr C Outram would purchase this house and land for 350 pounds. The land area was quite large measuring over 73 feet in the front and more than 77 feet at the rear. The length of the block is 165 feet.

Mr and Mrs Jefferson lived here for a time until the house was purchased by Mr Summerville. A daughter, Sandra, lived here for a time and then the house was demolished in controversial circumstances. Around 1990, early one Sunday morning a bulldozer demolished the house. Outraged neighbours managed to salvage the front door and it now is the front door on No 3 Clarke Street.

This block of land and it is currently up for sale.
