No 14 Flowers Drive

This weatherboard and galvanised iron cottage was constructed between 1908-1915. The’ Wallarah Coal-mining Company ‘built the cottage to house its mineworkers.

The Morris family was the first family to occupy this house. Mr Morris ‘Tim’, was a clerk at the mine office.  His wife was named Elvie.

Laurel (nee Bridge) and Dave Wiltshire then moved into the house. Dave was the lorry driver for the pit. Dave was one of the volunteers who maintained the cemetery grounds using the hand push lawn mowers and reeping hooks.

In1964 the coal company ‘Coal & Allied’ subdivided some of its land. The company determined that this house and land would be bought for 400 pounds by Mr D Wiltshire.

The house was changed in appearance during this time with a return verandah added and the wooden verandah replaced with bessa bricks.

Dave and Laurel had two boys Doug and Barry who grew up in the Bay and both became colliery workers. Douglas married Yvonne and had a son Stacey who moved into the house when his grandmother Laurel died.
