This weatherboard and galvanised iron cottage was constructed between 1908-1915. The’ Wallarah Coal-mining Company’ built this cottage to house its mineworkers.
The Williams family were the first tenants in this house. There were two daughters; Harriet, who later married a Mr Mascord and Hester who married Jock Symes and then moved into No 10 Flowers Drive.
Mr Williams, (as did Mr Gill from main Camp), had the job of carting coal to peoples’ houses by horse and dray. This delivery of coal was one of the benefits of being a mine employee.
Debbie and Eric Saunders then moved into the house. Debbie was the daughter of Ozzie and Kate Jones from Pit Road, which is now, called Colliery Road. Eric was a miner.A large fig tree grew in the backyard which supplied all the jam makers when in season.
In 1964 the coal company ‘Coal & Allied’ subdivided some of its land. The company determined that this house and land would be sold for 400 pounds to Mr E Saunders.
There were no children born to the marriage although they adopted a boy Peter. When Debbie died Danny Kehane bought the house renovated internally and repainted it. The house was sold in 2003 to James Murphy his wife Magrete Erling and daughters, Grace and Olive.
The house was sold in November 2009 for $553.000 to Simon Hartley.
