This weatherboard and galvanised iron house was built between 1908-1915. The Wallarah Coal-mining Company constructed the cottage to house its mineworkers.
The Mc Dougall family originally lived in this house. Andy, Tom, Jack (Roy’s father) and Donk.
The Cromptom next lived here. (Not the Mine Camp Cromptons)
Children were James (Slogger), Thomas (Tough Tom), Mervyn (Erks), Alex (Acko) and Alfred Stanley (Bate). Girls were, Grace, Alice, Ivy and Joyce.
Tom Crompton (tough Tom) continued to live with his mother and was in the V.D.C. Voluntary Defence Corp. He had a uniform, rifle, horse, saddle boots and hat and patrolled the coast around the Bay. Bill Peacock sometimes rode with him. He called his horse Mystery.
Joyce Crompton married a Mr Patterson and moved to Sydney.
Three of the brothers, Erks, Snow and James lived in the house and when the Coal Company ’Coal & Allied’ subdivided some of their land in1964.
Mr J C Crompton bought the house and land for 400 pounds.
After the brothers died the house was left to Joyce who came back from Sydney with her husband and two sons Ronnie and Kenny and lived in the house. After the father died Ronnie lived with his mother. He later sold the house much to the disappointment of the cousins.
