No 2 Lindsley St

Built by Jim Plumridge as a shop (mixed business) for his stepfather Barney Bridge in 1951. When Jim and Alice married in January 1953, they took over the shop, and added the residence at the back. In early 1955 they leased the shop to Jim’s step-aunt, Laurel Wilshire, who ran it until 1958. The shop was closed then, and fully converted to residence.

From September 1958 for 4or 5 years Dr Morrie Cohen used the front room as a Surgery.

They initially rented the land from the Coal Co. until June1968, then they were able to buy the land for100 pounds. George and Daphne Fitzhenry, Sydney residents, bought from them in June1969, intending to retire here. (George was in love with the place, a keen fisherman, having a boat housed in a lockup in the cliff base a Little Beach, in partnership with long time Bay resident Joe Baker and his son Jock). Sadly George died before retiring, in February 1972. Daphne was sole owner then, of course, but found it too lonely to take up full-time residence. 2 Lindsley became the family holiday home for 4 generations of family. Daphne deceased in November 1995, ownership transferring to her daughter Valerie King, who with husband Donald retired here in December 2001.
