This weatherboard and galvanised iron cottage was constructed between 1908-1915. The ‘Wallarah Coal-mining Company’ built this cottage to house its mineworkers.
The Musgrave family first occupied this house. The Fuller family, who was related to the Musgraves, came to live in the house.
In 1964 the coal company ‘Coal & Allied’ subdivided some of its land. The company determined that this house and land would be purchased for400 pounds by Mrs H Fuller.
Mrs Olive Fuller had three girls Vera, Nancy and Doreen. There was also a son Eric who continued to live in the house for many years until getting a flat in Windale. In 1974 the roof of the house was blown off in the hurricane that hit the town and caused considerable damage. The community got together to repair the roof for Eric and that is the reason why this house has a flat roof.
One of Eric’s sisters’ Vera, had married Kenny Stanford who was in the Merchant Navy they had earlier bought the house.
Kenny was the Australian Bantamweight Champion. He fought many times at the Newcastle Stadium and when Mr Stanford retired they moved into the house. The house was sold in 2004 as Mr Stanford had died.
