This weatherboard and galvanised iron cottage was constructed between 1908-1915. The ‘Wallarah Coal-mining Company’ built this cottage to house its mineworkers.
Mr Tom Fuller and his wife Ollie originally lived in this house. Dorrie Henderson worked for the family for a while helping in the house. Many girls in the town worked in this capacity as there was little other work to be had and also there no modern conveniences at this time and many families were large.
Rita Bridge (nee Bell) and Ernie Bridge lived in this house when he worked at the stables caring for the pit horses.
Pat Slaven with his Canadian wife Annie were the next occupants. Pat is well remembered for his extraordinary work with the Surf Life Saving Assoc. In the town.
In 1964 the coal company ‘Coal & Allied’ subdivided some of its land. The company determined that this house and land would be purchased for 400 pounds by Mr P Slavin.
Their son ‘Paddy’ owned the house but died in 2006. House sold. There
has been extensive renovations at the rear of the house.
