This is where the hall was. Concerts, dances, school socials and many community events were held here. Sometimes the concerts were benefits to raise money. For example, when Mrs Warren’s husband was killed in the mine a concert was held and the proceeds given to her and her five small children. When the town’s girls and boys were going off to, or returning from, war, concerts were held. Many families had photographs taken in the hall to mark an important family event, such as, the Henderson family photo when Peg’s son turned twenty-one.

The hall was also where the Picture Show was held. Payne’s owned the picture show. As they were silent pictures Salty Jones sang and played the piano as accompaniment. His ‘Sheik of Araby’ is still remembered.
