This weatherboard and galvanised iron cottage was constructed around 1917. The ‘Wallarah Coal-mining Company’ built this three-bedroom cottage to house its mineworkers.
Norah and ‘Baker’ Davies first lived in this house with their two children; Mary and Tom. Norah was a Williams and her brother Adam lived down the hill at number 46. When Norah died Tom and his wife Susie (nee Gwen Henderson) moved in.
Tom and Susie moved from Slack Alley and the old Henderson house with their two children Leslie and Phillip.
Tom was a great fisherman and passed on his skills to both his children.
In 1964 the coal company ‘Coal & Allied’ subdivided some of its land. The Company determined that this house and land would be purchased for 400 pounds by Mr T E Davies.
When Tom died Susie moved to Bonny Hills around the year 2000 to be closer to her son Phillip and his wife Julie and the house was sold to Simon Rathlow and has been on sold.
